The Journey to Mount Kailash

Mount Kailash,

Solitary on the high Gangadise Way,

Stands.

No range round companions it,

No Alps, no Pyranees, Andes

Or Rockies. Himalaya is leagues away.

Kailash stands alone, and high.

Alone in Xizing,

This precious jewel of the glacier snows

Is black, grey, grassless,

A single upthrust of the world’s rock crust,

Flat slashes on its silent sides –

Staircase to the sky …
